Any drive that can never be satisfied can be lethal. The most destructive feature of addiction, whether to drugs, alcohol,
gambling or whatever is that these have no end point. The need for ever-increasing doses may lead to destruction. The same
holds true for envy, lust, and pursuit of glory. Regardless of how wealthy one may be, he may still be envious of others who
he thinks have something that he lacks. A person driven to satisfy his lust is also insatiable. There is no amount of acclaim
and recognition that will quench the thirst of someone whose grandiosity makes the pursuit of glory endless. Envy is particularly
destructive. It does nothing to satisfy one's cravings. Envy will eat away, sapping every bit of joy out of life. How can
an envious person be happy when he believes others to be more fortunate than he is?
Let us examine ourselves. If we find that any of these rule over us, we would be wise to rein them in, lest they literally
"draw us out of the world."
