A Sanctified Tongue
The Third Commandment states: "Do not take (swear in) YHVH's name in vain."
Exodus 20:7
Swearing in vain is more severe than idolatry or murder. The question is: how can a few spoken words
be worse than idolatry? A murderer cannot murder all the time even if he wanted to, lest he be caught.
However, someone who is in the habit of swearing in vain can swear countless times during the course of the day without giving
a second thought. Even when asked, "why did you just swear" he would swear that he didn't swear.
A person who is careful to sanctify his tongue will have his prayers accepted. May all your prayers
be speedily answered.
