The Ways Of Sin
"In it's beginning sin is as thin as the filament of a spider
web, but at the end it is as thick as the rope that pulls a wagon."
A tiny seed can sprout
a tree that bears abundant fruit over many years. We may be less aware that this is equally true of evil. A tiny seed
of evil can result in grave, long-term consequences.
Dishonest behavior can
be addictive. A person may not think he is launching himself on a criminal career when he cheats someone. He may even
justify it as accepted business practice. But the lust for money can be every bit as addictive as the craving for drugs.
The time to discontinue
a potentially dangerous habit is at its onset. Since young people are particularly vulnerable to doing things without
consideration of the future, parents should look for ways in which they can model restraint. It may sound foolish, but
a parent who explains to a child why he is observing the speed limit while other cars are passing him, because "If I break
one law, it may lower my resistance to breaking others" is giving the child a valuable lesson for healthy living. |
